About Zócalo

Zócalo is the name of the largest square in Mexico City, one of the largest squares in the world. It is a place where people gather to meet their friends and family members, celebrate and eat good food - just like in our restaurant.

Our restaurant has its origins in the Taquerias and street food of San Francisco's Mission District. A melting pot where different Hispanic immigrant cultures from Germany, Poland, Ireland, Nicaragua, Salvador and Guatemala are mixed with newly moved hipsters, bohemians and artists.

But above all, it is the part of San Francisco where the Mexican immigrants live.

That's why Mission's taquerias have the most authentic tacos mixed with American Tex Mex and the neighborhood's own version of the burrito, the world-famous Mission burrito.

The food is far from the Swede's idea of bad tex mex, but is in true Californian spirit filled with fresh and healthy ingredients.

Zócalo is simply the original fresh food of Mission District SF.
